Summer Reading
Well, it's been a pretty busy summer and it takes me about 30-45 minutes to write ONE review. I have been reading a TON and I can't wait to share with you some great reads. If you live in the Fort Wayne, IN area, there is a Summer Reading Program going on at ALL the Allen County Library branches. Basically you read and then you get prizes. For grades 6-12: Level 1 prize is a flash drive, Level 2 is a free book and Level 3 is either another free book OR a raffles ticket to win an IPod Touch. I always go for the free books (of course!). They always have great ones to choose from and these books they are handing out aren't just old dusty ones they don't want anymore. They're books like the Hunger Games series, Percy Jackson series or even Sarah Dessen books (something that would cost $10-$15 but are free through this program!). Anyways I have new books to read and new reviews that shall be coming soon!

The Things They Carried
Overview:
A classic, life-changing meditation on war, memory, imagination, and the redemptive power of storytelling, with more than two-million copies in print
Depicting the men of Alpha Company—Jimmy Cross, Henry Dobbins, Rat Kiley, Mitchell Sanders, Norman Bowker, Kiowa, and the character Tim O’Brien, who survived his tour in Vietnam to become a father and writer at the age of forty-three—the stories in The Things They Carried opened our eyes to the nature of war in a way we will never forget. It is taught everywhere, from high school classrooms to graduate seminars in creative writing, and in the decades since its publication it has never failed to challenge our perceptions of fact and fiction, war and peace, and courage, longing, and fear.

Divergent
Divergent Overview: In Beatrice Prior's dystopian Chicago, society is divided into five factions, each dedicated to the cultivation of a particular virtue—Candor (the honest), Abnegation (the selfless), Dauntless (the brave), Amity (the peaceful), and Erudite (the intelligent). On an appointed day of every year, all sixteen-year-olds must select the faction to which they will devote the rest of their lives. For Beatrice, the decision is between staying with her family and being who she really is—she can't have both. So she makes a choice that surprises everyone, including herself.
During the highly competitive initiation that follows, Beatrice renames herself Tris and struggles to determine who her friends really are—and where, exactly, a romance with a sometimes fascinating, sometimes infuriating boy fits into the life she's chosen. But Tris also has a secret, one she's kept hidden from everyone because she's been warned it can mean death. And as she discovers a growing conflict that threatens to unravel her seemingly perfect society, she also learns that her secret might help her save those she loves… or it might destroy her.
